Welcome to K-9 Assistance Services, Inc.
Through the generosity of our friends, family, members, contributors, donators, and volunteers, we are able to save the lives of shelter dogs, and change the lives of disabled people.
As an organization, we strive to better our lives and the lives of those around us. Please join us on our journey!
We Are A Few That Will Never Give Up On The Many!
At K-9 Assistance Services, Inc., we believe that each and every person should take their skills and do something that benefits people that are less fortunate. We, the board of directors, are dog trainers. We have the skills to train Service Dogs and have made a commitment to help shelter dogs, and to help the disabled people that desire the companionship of a Service Dog, but do not have the resources to pay for one. We have also recently decided to add two programs, our Badge Dogs Program to raise and train young dogs to be donated to law enforcement and our T.U.R.D. Dogs (Training the Untrainable Rescue Dogs) Program to help train dogs in shelters to help successfully place them so that they are not returned to the shelters.
Our experiences with disabled people have been enlightening. We have met many amazing people and developed many wonderful friendships. We have shed a few tears along the way. But most importantly, we have learned that even though people are put up against huge obstacles, they stay positive and endeavor to persevere. I cannot thank enough, those that have opened their homes and their lives to us so that we could understand their needs and train dogs to match those needs. We have learned a lot and know we have a lot more to learn.
It warms our hearts and motivates us to continue in our efforts, when we see the smile on someone's face the first few licks their Service Dog gives them. It is very fulfilling to watch a new recipient begin to click with their Service Dog and work together with precision and accuracy. It is in these moments that we know we are doing the right thing. In this moment we know that we must work harder and smarter to find more dogs, accept more recipients, and place as many dogs as we possibly can.
Please take the time to learn more about the many disabilities that many Americans suffer from. Open your heart and step up to the challenge of making a disabled persons life as normal as possible. Our dogs make it possible for our recipients to be able to do many of the things that we take for granted, things as simple as turning a light on or off, opening a refrigerator door and getting a bottle of water, or even being able to do your own laundry.
A Little Extra About The Trainers And The Staff...
The organization was founded in 2003 by Jeremy Talamantes. We have had a lot of success in the training program and have developed unique training techniques that have produced amazing Service Dogs. We are very proud and fortunate to currently have Stephanie O'Brien as our Training Director. Stephanie is a world class trainer and highly respected among the best dog trainers in the world! We also have Francisco Aguilar as our kennel manager and assistant trainer. Francisco started working for us in 2010 and has since grown rapidly as a kennel manager and trainer. We are very excited about the following years, as we are confident there will be great growth! We know in our hearts that we will be moving towards bigger and better things.
Both Jeremy Talamantes and Stephanie O'Brien are not just your average dog enthusiasts that had an idea to train Service Dogs. As a matter of fact, they are both very accomplished dog trainers with excellent reputations. They both have experience in numerous types of dog training including the following... Obedience, Protection, Schutzhund, French Ring, Mondio Ring, Police Dogs, Search and Rescue, Detection, and of course Service Dogs. It is this unique skill set that enables them to accomplish training the most difficult types of Service Dog tasks with accuracy and efficiency, raising and training green dogs, and taking the most difficult shelter dogs and training them for their forever homes.
